Building a bit more security for retirement — in my own time.

I'm Simon Bull. I've worked since I was at school — paper rounds, hotels, leisure centres, twenty-four years in the prison service, and now driving trains. Good jobs, with pensions most people would be glad to have. This is the story of what I've been doing on the side, and why.

In My Own Words

Why I started looking into this

A few honest minutes on why a good pension still left me wondering if I'd need more — and what I've tried since.

The actual sequence

How I got here

A real timeline, not a sales funnel — the order is the point.

Starting out

Paper rounds to hotels

Paper rounds & milk rounds before & after school, hotels, leisure centres — always working, from school onward.

24 years

The Prison Service

Most of it on the landings, later teaching PE in the gym.

Then

Train Driver

Another solid job, another defined benefit pension.

Now

Looking at what's next

Good pensions — but wondering if I'd want more for retirement, and exploring how to get there.

My Story

Hi, I'm Simon — people call me Papa Bull

I've got two defined benefit pensions, from the prison service and the railway. That's more than a lot of people get, and I'm genuinely grateful for it. But I've always worried it might not be quite enough for the retirement I want — one where I can spend proper time with my family and do the things I actually want to do.

I've always liked technology, so over the years I tried a fair few ways of earning online. I'll be honest — most of them didn't work. I spent money on courses that went nowhere and made nothing back. What I'm doing now, with AI finance, is the first thing that's actually made steady progress for me.

I'm not a salesperson, and I don't want to convince you of anything. I just want to show you my journey — where I started, what I got wrong, and how it's going — so you can look at it and decide for yourself if it's something worth exploring.

Honestly, as it happens

My journey so far

Not numbers or promises — just what I've actually experienced along the way.

Getting started

Why I looked into this

A good pension isn't the same as feeling secure. That gap is what got me looking.

What I've learned

Don't chase shiny objects

I wasted time and money on courses and "opportunities" that led nowhere. If something feels salesy, that's usually the answer.

Where I am now

Steady, honest progress

No promises, no big claims — just something that's working for me so far, a couple of years out from where I want to be..
